Alpha Chi at Portland State Newsletter
Hello friends, family and sisters of Alpha Chi Omega at Portland State,
Winter Bid Day was a celebration for our new members where we welcomed seven sisters into our chapter! We welcomed our new members by having a lunch a Rogue, then a celebration in Parkway North, our theme “Rock n Roll” was a huge success! During Bid Week we hosted a bowling night at the Smith Bowling Alley to get to know our awesome new members!
We’ve had fun and exciting sisterhood events this term to promote the bond between sisters including going to the Sky High Trampoline park and attending a yoga session at the Academic and Student Rec Center on campus.
Later in the term our winter class received their bigs and had the best time at big little reveal! In February our Fall 2016 class exchanged paddles and blankets with their bigs!
Some of our Winter highlights include:
February 12: Our VP Facilities Operations, Cam K. hosted a Galentines brunch at the suite that featured Acai bowls and waffles!
March 7th: We hosted our annual Nacho Night to fundraise for our philanthropy, Domestic Violence Awareness. We raised over $1,000 and all proceeds went to a local domestic violence shelter in Portland, Bradley Angle.
February 25th: We participated in the Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics Oregon for the second year in a row! We raised $5,254 and we have to send out a huge thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal!
Some awesome holidays we hold near and dear happened in winter term, one being MacDowell month, celebration of the arts every February and to honor this we hosted a karaoke and craft night at our suite. For Hera Day, March 1st, which is our day of service, we had an event making blessing bags full of toiletry items to give to a local shelter, Bradley Angle.
Our newer Lifetime member, Addison Flannery is an out-of-state student from California. Why did she choose Alpha Chi? “When I was preparing to transfer from community college in CA, I was looking up ways to get involved on campus at PSU and Alpha Chi popped up and reading more about the philanthropy and seeing photos and what the sorority is about, it felt like a place I needed to be”. Her favorite Alpha Chi experience so far, “I think my favorite AXO experience is running into sisters in class and on campus. It sounds so simple but it is so comforting, especially as a transfer student, to run into sisters and always be welcomed with a smile and a quick conversation.”
